Lady Rams Basketball Signs Three
Winston-Salem State University Head Coach Dee Stokes has
announced the signing of 3 more members to the 2007-2008
signing class. The following prospects have signed National
Letters of Intent with WSSU: Jordhan Peterson of Norfolk
Collegiate High School, Virginia Beach, VA, Porsche Harrell of
Westover High School in Fayetteville, NC, and Chloe Morse of
Liberty High School in Bealeton, VA. These 3 signees were
added along with 6’5” center Elizabeth Maas (West Forsyth,
Clemmons, NC) and 5’8” guard Shatara Jackson (Laney High
School, Wilmington, NC) who signed a few weeks earlier. “My
staff and I have worked very hard over the last 3 weeks to
secure this signing class. I am excited about these young
ladies and look forward to seeing them grow in the Ram
program. They are all exceptional students and should excel
both on and off the floor.”
Jordhan Peterson, a 6’1” post player, averaged shooting 52.7%
from the field, 9.64 ppg, and 7.08 rpg. Coach Stokes says,
“Jordhan was a steal for us. She is an exceptional student and
really wants to get better as a basketball player. I love the
fact that Jordhan and her mom, Tanya Mann sometime get up at
6am to go to the gym to workout. I look forward to seeing her
blossom in our system.” Norfolk Collegiate coach Suzanne
Midkiff had this to say about Jordhan and her signing,
"Norfolk Collegiate School is thrilled for Jordhan Peterson.
Jordhan's work ethic, sportsmanship and drive will be an
excellent addition to the Winston-Salem State University team.
We wish her nothing but the best and know she will succeed
both on and off the court at this next stage in her life."
Porsche Harrell, a 5’6” point guard, averaged 8.8 apg (total
of 274 for the season). She also averaged 3.6 spg and only had
85 turnovers for the season. Coach Stokes on Porsche: “Porsche
is no stranger to our program in that Kadina Baldwin and
Shalonda Carter both graduated from WSSU and played at
Westover High School. Porsche just does not turn the ball
over. That is what I liked about this kid. You have to have
three point guards at the Division I level. She played on a
state championship team and her high school coach, Coach
Arrington remarked that they would not have won it without her
leadership.” Porsche will major in Nursing and knows that WSSU
has an outstanding Nursing program.
Chloe Morse is a 5’11” very physical forward. Stokes says
“Chloe has a 32” vertical and should fit in nicely at the 4
position for us. We thought we would take a chance on Chloe
because her coach, Ellen Allen, felt that her potential was
untapped. Chloe can also shoot the 3, which is something we
like for our 4 players to be able to do.” Chloe is an
exceptional student and will graduate in the top 10 in her
class out of 440 students and has a great shot at being
admitted into WSSU’s honors program.
“I am excited about this entire class. We have two more
scholarships remaining and will use one of them for another
post player. We hope to be finished in the coming weeks. We
look forward to the start of basketball season in October,”
Coach Stokes.
As a side note, Shatara Jackson was named to play in the North
Carolina Athletic Association East/West All Star game on July
21, 2008. “We are so proud of Shatara and feel that she really
deserves this honor. Unfortunately we will not be able to
attend the all star game because it is during a dead period
for us, but we wish her well and know that she will have a
great game,” head Coach Dee Stokes. |
